Mastic is a natural spice used in various Greek desserts. Its most common use is in Greek Easter Bread (Tsoureki). Sold in crystal form, not ground.
Mastiha (as known in Greece) is also therapeutic, and is used often in treating ulcers. It is the active incredient of medications used against Helicobacter pylori, the bacteria most often responsible for peptic ulcers.
