St. Barbara was an intelligent, beautiful woman who was kept in seclusion in a tower by her father. When he discovered her conversion to Christianity, she was violently tortured, but Christ appeared to her in jail and healed her wounds. Refusing to accept the Roman pagan idols, she was subsequently beheaded by her father in the third century. St. Barbara is the patron saint of roads. Her relics can be found at: Rousanou Monastery, Meteora; Kechrovounion, and Tinos.
