Greek Octopus Sterling Silver Necklace 16" Rope Chain
The Minoan 7-legged octopus, also known as the 7-armed octopus, is a significant artifact from the Minoan civilization. This octopus, which is a representation of the marine species Haliphron atlanticus, was discovered in a grave circle in Mycenae and is believed to have been buried by elite Mycenaeans around 1550 BCE. The octopus is notable for its unusual number of arms, which is most unusual for an octopus. It is estimated to have weighed 90 kilos and reached lengths of 5-6 meters during the Bronze Age. The octopus motifs in the grave indicate the Mycenaeans' connection to the sea and their understanding of marine life.. This pendant is attached on its sides to a 16" Sterling Silver Rope Chain and makes a great fashion accessory.

The Neptune Collection features jewelry inspired by our Oceans and its wonderful creatures. It is named after King Neptune aka Poseidon in ancient Greece, the Ancient Greek God of the Sea.
