Sterling Silver Greek Key Heart Pendant Necklace

One of the earliest examples from the Middle Ages of the heart is from a French manuscript "Roman de la poire" depicting a man kneeling and offering his heart to a damsel. The heart is the ultimate symbol of love and devotion. It has become so commonplace in society but the symbol has truly endured over the years. Giving someone a heart shows them that you care enough to offer part of yourself to them.

Rounded, hollow sterling silver heart pendant with the traditional Greek Key Motif, also known as the Meander or eternity symbol, carved throughout the center. Pendant hangs from a high-quality sterling silver 16" rhodium* plated (to preserve shine and durability) chain.

In art and architecture, a meander is a decorative border constructed from a continuous line, shaped into a repeated motif. Such a design is also called the Greek Fret or Greek Key design, although these are modern words. The name "meander" recalls the twisting and turning path of the Maeander River. Meanders were among the most important symbols in ancient Greece; they, perhaps, symbolized infinity and unity; many ancient Greek temples incorporated the sign of the meander.

*Rhodium is a precious metal, a member of the platinum family. Rhodium electroplating is used on jewelry in order to provide a surface that will resist scratches and tarnish while giving it a white and reflective appearance.
