The series "The Greek Archives" includes material of inestimable value from the archives of the 78-rpm discography. In this way, the traditional songs of Hellenism and Asia Minor as well as contemporary Greek folk songs are kept into record. Folk song is characterized from the presence of the folk clarinet that evolves in a few years as national instrument of the Greeks. The Musicians of Asia Minor came to Greece after the uprooting of Hellenism, and during the period of 1924 to 1940, they formed a new type of song that was characterized as Smyrnea. In addition to this, the refugees of Asia Minor accelerated rapidly a new type of urban song, that was called rebetiko and ever since, it has expressed exclusively the underworld.
