Sterling Silver Earrings - Swaying Owl (23mm)

[Code : JP7069SE] Sterling Silver Earrings - Swaying Owl (23mm)

This product is currently unavailable for purchase.

These unique oxidized sterling silver earrings feature the classic icon of an owl ( koukouvagia ), which is the traditional Greek symbol of wisdom - with gleaming blue non-precious stone eyes. The owl is separated into 3 sections - the head, body and tail feathers - and they are hanging below one another by 2 metal rings, giving the owl a swaying movement as you turn your head. Very stunning!

Oxidized silver is produced naturally when oxygen reacts with silver. Precious sterling silver reacts to oxygen very easily, and has a darker appearance. Oxidized sterling silver jewelry has a nice contrast and vintage feel as the finish lacks shine and sparkle.

History
In Greek and Roman mythology, Glaucus (Greek: Γλαῦκος, Glaukos, "glaring (eyes)") is the symbolic owl of Athena or Minerva, respectively. Often referred to as the "owl of Athena" or "owl of Minerva", it accompanies Minerva in Roman myths, seen as a symbol of wisdom because the owl is capable of seeing even in the dark and of vigilance because the owl is awake at night.
