EMI Classics is proud to be releasing Harmony, the official classical album for the world’s most important sporting event, the 2004 Olympic Games which are being held in Athens this summer.

This release is one of three official albums all being produced by EMI Music to support the Games: Unity, the official pop album, PHOS, the official Greek album, and the classical album, Harmony.

This compilation features some of EMI’s finest artists performing their best loved classical and crossover music, including Vanessa Mae, Nigel Kennedy, Plácido Domingo and Maria Callas.

Maria Callas sings “Qui Radames verra” from Verdi’s opera Aida and it is this piece that will open the Games at the official ceremony in Athens. Also among them is Sarah Brightman singing “Time to Say Goodbye”, which caused a storm when it was first released in the late nineties, “Auld Lang Syne” sung by Helmut Lotti and “Happy Valley” performed by Vanessa Mae, the piece which accompanied the celebrations around the arrival of the Olympic torch in Beijing this year.

Finally, this cd album presents a new piece “Olympic Dream”, a homage to the Games, by the acclaimed crossover pianist, Maksim, whose album The Piano Player has gone Gold, Platinum and Double Platinum all over South-East Asia and in his home country of Croatia. Vangelis’s famous “Chariots of Fire” rounds things off in true Olympic style.

The sheer range of music and great variety of nationalities appearing on this album are in the true spirit of the Olympic Games - bringing together people from all over the world to strive for and celebrate the greatest of human achievement - this is the true definition of Harmony and the very essence of this album.
