A little about "gouria":
Although the word "gouri" is associated with anything that brings good luck, the Gouri is a traditionally Greek New Year's gift. According to Greek superstitions, a good luck charm cannot be bought but rather given as a gift from someone. This is why the gouri is a symbolic gift exchanged between family members, friends, or business associates, wishing the recipient good luck in the New Year. The Gouri also makes a great housewarming or friendship gift. Typically gouria include the year they were presented to the recipient.

Originally from the drahma days, the deka lepta was minted in the 50's and 60's and was not of great monetary value, but it was used extensively in small daily transactions. Finding one was considered a sign of good fortune and the coin was often used as a good luck charm.
